IG Announces Completed Transaction for Scrap Metal Processing and Recycling Company
Highly acquisitive strategic buyer will build upon its numerous holdings in the U.S. scrap market
September 2022 - The Independence Group (IG) announces the sale of its client, a Scrap Metal Processing Company, to a large strategic buyer.
The company is a processor of ferrous and non-ferrous metals located in the Southeast region of the U.S. It also processes materials such as electronics, batteries, insulated wire and automotive parts. The company sources scrap metals from suppliers and contractors as well as from the general public. The metals are sorted, processed and sold to steel, aluminum and copper mills.
The seller will initiate his planned transition to retirement which could potentially include an option to remain with the company in a modified role.
As a large corporate player in the U.S. scrap market, the buyer demonstrated its financial flexibility to conduct a rapid and efficient transaction. “This buyer is a very well-oiled machine with a professional, skillful acquisition process,” said Barclay Bright, IG’s Sr. M&A Advisor and VP of the Eastern region. “It enabled us to complete the sale in just six weeks which was the ideal timeline for our client.” The buyer’s acquisition strategy includes additional roll-ups of scrap yards in the Southeast.
“Our firm has recently seen increased activity in the recycling industry, as this is our second completed transaction in the last 10 months”, said Larry Willis, President of IG. “A third recycling deal is currently in due diligence. We hope to continue building expertise in the recycling space.”
With offices in California, on the East Coast, in the Upper Midwest and in Texas, IG represents clients from across the U.S. The firm works in tandem with its buy-side services division, Acquisition Partners (AP), to provide a full range of M&A services.
